The purpose of the Hockey Canada Level VI Seminar is to provide elite provincial Branch Level V officials with the following opportunities:
- To receive the newest information, techniques and procedures available to officials
- To receive instruction from Hockey Canada Officiating Program’s top instructors and guest presenters
- To compare their skills with both elite Canadian and international officials
- To receive game supervision from national supervisors
At the seminar, candidates underwent extensive fitness testing both on and off the ice and were required to obtain a minimum score of 90 percent on a written national exam. During the seminar, each candidate was supervised during a game and is now required to be supervised by a national supervisor before the Level VI certification can be deemed complete.
Level VI Seminars are held based on a national need for Level VI officials. Each Hockey Canada Branch is invited to nominate a minimum of one (1) candidate to participate in the biannual seminar. Currently, BC Hockey has seven (7) active Level VI officials: Ryan Benbow, Kevin Bennett, Mike Campbell, Jeff Ingram, Brett Iverson, Steve Papp and Sean Raphael.
