BC Hockey is pleased to announce that Hockey Canada has awarded Port Alberni the privilege of hosting the 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge. Announcements were also made as to the locations of the 2008 National Women’s Under-18 Championship (Napanee, ON) and the 2009 TELUS Cup (Selkirk, MB).
“It’s always an honour for BC Hockey communities to host national hockey events,” said BC Hockey Officer at Large Shannon Bell. “Port Alberni is a wonderful location, and I know their host committee will put together an event that will be enjoyed by all.”
Eleven BC Hockey High Performance Players will join with 11 players from Alberta to form Team Pacific. During the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, Team Pacific will compete against four other Canadian teams (Western, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic) as well as five international teams. Team Pacific has earned silver in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.
