BC Hockey announced August 29, 2016 the 26 players shortlisted for potential participation on Team BC at the 2016 National Women’s U18 Championship, held November 9 – 13, 2016 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The players will be evaluated by BC Hockey evaluators and the Team BC coaching staff during the Team BC September Camp, September 23 – 25 in Vancouver, BC. The final roster will be announced once the September Camp concludes.
“The BC Hockey evaluation team is excited with the players selected to the short list,” said Female High Performance Coordinator Stefan Greiner. “I’m confident that it will be an exciting few days in September as we narrow down the list and pick Team BC.”
The National Women’s U18 Championship features eight (8) regional teams: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario Red, Ontario Blue, Quebec, and Atlantic. The tournament features the best Midget-aged players in the country, and claims alumni such as Marie-Philip Poulin, Natalie Spooner, and Meghan Agosta.
BC Hockey’s Female High Performance Program was established to identify and train athletes and team personnel for possible participation at Provincial, National and International events. BC Hockey’s Female U18 level is the third and final stage of the High Performance Program. It is an opportunity for the top players in the province to train and compete at an elite level and is meant to introduce players to the beginning of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence.
