Beaver Valley Nitehawks Capture the 2017 Cyclone Taylor Cup
Monday, April 10, 2017

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks captured their second Cyclone Taylor Cup in four (4) years after defeating the Campbell River Storm 6-2 in Creston.

The Cyclone Taylor Cup is the BC Hockey Junior ‘B’ Championship bringing together the winners of the three (3) junior B leagues in BC. The Nitehawks were representing the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL), the Storm represented the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL), the Aldergrove Kodiaks were the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) representatives and the Creston Valley Thunder Cats of the KIJHL were the host team.

The Nitehawks opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over the Storm but fell in their second game of the tournament 2-0 to Aldergrove before wrapping up the round-robin with a 6-2 win over Creston Valley.

It was a very even event with all teams at 1-1 after two (2) days of competition. The host Thunder Cats won the bronze medal with a 3-0 win over Aldergrove.

In the gold medal game, Beaver Valley would score the game’s final five (5) goals after going down 2-1 in the first period. Dylan Heppler (Warner, AB) led the Nitehawks with a pair of goals and Blake Sidoni (Trail) added a goal and two (2) assists.

Beaver Valley has now won four (4) Cyclone Taylor Cups. They will travel to Arborg, MB, to compete in the Keystone Cup, the Western Canada Junior B Championship. The Nitehawks open the tournament on Thursday, April 13, 2017 against the Alberta representative, Wainwright.
