Three BC Hockey Officials Selected to Officiate World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Three (3) BC Hockey Officials have been selected to officiate at the World U17 Hockey Challenge in Dawson Creek and Fort St John, BC from November 2-11, 2017.

Those officials selected are:

Nick Panter (21)          Kamloops - Referee

Troy Paterson (25)      White Rock - Referee

Nick Albinati (23)        Prince George – Linesman

Nick Panter began officiating during the 2009-2010 season in his home town of Kamloops. In 2016, Nick obtained his Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) Level Five (5) certification. Later that season he participated in Hockey Canada’s Officiating Program of Excellence (OPoE). In the spring of 2017, he was selected to referee the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship, where he officiated the bronze medal game. Nick is currently a referee in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL), the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) and is in his first season in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Troy Paterson began officiating during the 2014-2015 season after finishing his junior hockey playing career in 2012-2013 with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles. Troy participated in BC Hockey’s OPoE in 2015 before going on to Hockey Canada’s OPoE in July 2017. This past summer, Troy participated in BC Hockey’s Level Five (5) upgrade seminar and has previously participated in the National Hockey League’s (NHL) officiating combine. In 2016, Troy was selected to referee the BCHL’s Fred Page Cup Championship Series. Troy is currently a referee in the BCHL, the WHL and the American Hockey League (AHL).

Nick Albinati began officiating during the 2006-2007 season with the Prince George Minor Hockey Association. In 2016, Nick received his HCOP Level four (4) certification. He joined Nick Panter at the 2016 Hockey Canada OPoE, as well as officiating the 2017 TELUS Cup in his home town and was selected to officiate the gold medal game. Nick currently officiates in the BC Hockey Major Midget League (MML), the BCHL and the WHL as a linesman.     

BC Hockey’s Officiating Development Facilitator Larry Krause and Referee-in-Chief Sean Raphael will be in Fort St. John November 4 and 5, 2017 during the World U17 Challenge.
