For the second year in a row, Team BC brings home the bronze medal at the 2017 National Women’s U18 Championship wrapping up today in Quebec City, Quebec. The team defeated Team Saskatchewan in overtime 2 - 1.
Jenna Buglioni (Port Moody, BC) opened the game scoring midway through the second period with help from Katie Chan (Richmond, BC) and Anne Cherkowski (Coldstream, BC). Saskatchewan tied the game late in the second and forced the game to overtime when neither team could find the back of the net in the third.
On the powerplay, Rylind MacKinnon (Cranbrok, BC) picked up her second goal of the tournament and the game winner in overtime. MacKinnon also was awarded Player of the Game for Team BC.
Team BC outshot Saskatchewan 38 – 22 and Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC) picked up the winner in net.
Team BC went 3-0 in the round robin defeating Team Saskatchewan 2 – 0, Team Manitoba 3 – 0 and Team Quebec 4 – 3. The team fell short against tough Ontario Red 6 – 1 in the semifinal on Saturday, November 4, 2017.
