John Berg was awarded with the Development Award for Officiating this past weekend at the 2008 BC Hockey Annual General Meeting in Penticton. The BC Hockey Development Award for Officiating recognizes service to the Hockey Canada Officiating Program in British Columbia. The purpose of this award is to annually acknowledge outstanding service by a volunteer who has devoted his or her time to assist the officiating program in BC Hockey.
Berg serves as the Referee in Chief for the Yukon Amateur Hockey Association and Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association. For the past five years, he has been active in training referees throughout the entire territory of the Yukon and his dedication has helped the Minor Hockey Associations produce many trained and qualified officials. As the sole trainer for officiating in the Yukon, John is constantly travelling throughout the territory to provide services to the affiliate Minor Hockey Associations.
BC Hockey has selected John Berg because of his effortless work and leadership as the primary catalyst behind quality and development of officiating in the Yukon. Once again, BC Hockey would like to extend congratulations to John as this year’s recipient of the Development Award for Officiating.
