BC Hockey Announces 2008 Team BC Staff
Thursday, July 03, 2008

BC Hockey has recently announced the Team BC staff for the 2008 Female National Challenge, to be held in Napanee, Ontario from November 5-9.  This announcement is the culmination of a Provincial application and review process by Vice President Shannon Bell.

Director of Operations

Scott Fraser

(Fort St. John)

Head Coach

Natalie Christensen

Assistant Coach

Pat Thibeault

(North Vancouver)

Assistance Coach

Chris Wagner

Kyle Knox

Scott Fraser has been actively involved with BC Hockey for a number of years as North East Female High Performance District Coordinator.  He has coached U18 North District Teams and most recently was Head Coach of Zone 8 (North East) for the 2008 BC Winter Games.  Fraser returns to represent the branch after being named assistant coach to Nancy Wilson at the 2007 Esso Women’s Nationals.

Former Team BC Player and Coach Natalie Christensen, has been selected as Head Coach.  Christensen was the bench boss of the WWHL BC Breakers last season and plans to return for next season.

Christensen states, “I believe BC has some very talented hockey players and the High Performance Program gives them a chance to be seen and represent this province with pride.”

Christensen is no stranger to representing the province as she has developed an impressive National Championship resume as part of U18 Team BC (Assistant Coach), and Senior Team BC (Assistant Coach and Player).

Pat Thibeault returns to the bench as Assistant Coach for the second season in a row.  Thibeault is known for the positive energy and hard work he brings to the team along with a wealth of coaching experience.  Thibeault has coached Bantam Males, Midget Males, Midget Females, Juveniles, Junior B Teams, a Winter Games Team, U18 BC Cup Team, UBC Women’s Varsity team and most recently the Vancouver Fusion of the Female AAA league.

Chris Wagner will join Team BC for his first chance at a National Championship.  Wagner had much success as District / Zone coach with Team Okanagan.  The team was unbeaten in Provincial Competitions, 16-0, which is a very impressive stat for the Bantam AAA Female Head Coach in Kamloops. Wagner has been very committed and dedicated to the Female High Performance Program in recent years and hopefully he brings his high performance winning record to U18 Team BC!

Kyla Knox will join the staff as Athletic Therapist and equipment manager.  Knox brings a lot of experience, which includes BCHL Team Therapist and Clinical Aid at the University of Manitoba.  She currently works as Athletic Therapist and Equipment manager for the Okanagan Hockey Academy.

Team BC staff (along with 10 other BC Hockey volunteers) will assist in the coordination of provincial camp held this year at UBC from August 4-9, 2008.  At the conclusion of camp 20 athletes will be chosen to make up Team BC.

Team BC will compete against Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Quebec, along with a representative from the Atlantic Provinces and two teams from Ontario for the National Challenge. Players from these teams are among the top female hockey players chosen to represent their Province for the National Championship Title.  Making this championship is the pinnacle of female minor hockey in Canada.  It is also a lifetime highlight of many of the players’ careers in amateur hockey.
