BC Hockey’s Under 18 Provincial Development camp concluded on Saturday as Team Blue narrowly edged by Team Red in a one goal final affair. This came as no surprise as the two teams played three (3) other highly competitive games during the week, finishing in a tie, and two (2) in shootout. The 48 invitees to the Provincial Development Camp were the top 1991 and 1992 aged players in BC. The camp was held at UBC from August 4 – 9 at the Father David Bauer Arena.
BC Hockey evaluators and Team BC coaching staff were happy with the competitive level at camp. Hockey Canada Head Scout Wally Kozak attended four days of the camp and stated, “The level of play is the highest I’ve seen in this province over many years of scouting female players. The BC camp content and operation is a National leader among the branches.” Kozak contributes this to the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers involved.
Among other things, the U18 Provincial Development Camp consisted of fitness testing, on-ice testing, a skills competition, health and nutrition seminar, mental training lecture (athlete preparation for a short term competition), Yoga session (flexibility and injury management), 3 on 3 challenge and four (4) full games.
On Saturday, BC Hockey evaluators selected the 2008 U18 Team BC. This year’s team will feature six (6) returning and 14 new players. The Female Under 18 National Championship will be held in Napanee, Ontario from November 5-9, 2008.
