BC Hockey recently announced the selection of some of the Branches top officials to attend Hockey Canada National Events and National Development Camps. Jennifer Konicek was selected to officiate at the Women’s National Under 18 Championship, Ryan Dawson was selected as a linesman at the World Junior A Challenge, and Ryan Benbow, Ron Dietterle, Nick Swaine and Mike Boisvert have been selected to attend the Western Officiating Program of Excellence (OPOE).
Konicek, a native of Kamloops was selected by Hockey Canada as a referee for the Women’s National Under 18 Championship held in Napanee, Ontario from November 5-9, 2008. Dawson, native of Kamloops will be representing BC Hockey when he attends the World Junior A Challenge in Camrose, AB from November 2-9, 2008 as a linesman.
Benbow, Dietterle, Swaine and Boisvert were invited to attend the Western Officiating Program and this will serve as a great accomplish in their young careers.
The OPOE is designed as an officiating talent identification and training program for elite officiating prospects, which extends beyond Branch officiating development. The OPOE is a partnership, which includes Hockey Canada and its Member Branches, the National Hockey League and the Canadian Hockey League. All partners bring together resources in order to foster a rewarding development opportunity for officials identified and trained in the OPOE.
The BC Hockey Officiating Program uses the Hockey Canada Officiating Program to train and evaluate officials working within the Branch. The program that BC Hockey administers allows for basic level training to elite high performance training within the system. This is a proven method and will continue to develop BC’s top officials and allow for them to make the next step in their development.
