Team BC took on Team Manitoba in their first game of the tournament Wednesday, November 5.  BC’s goaltender Taylor Salisbury was sensational in net with 53 saves.  Despite this amazing performance, Team BC lost a close game 3-2 to drop to 0-1 in the 2008 Championship.  Team BC was lead with goals from Kathleen McDonald and Rayna Cruickshank.  Team BC was able to battle back from a 3-1 deficit, but were unable to overcome the strong play of the Manitoba squad.

“Yeah, it’s right up there,” Salisbury said with a laugh when asked if it’s the most shots she has faced as a goaltender. “But I remember one time in Atom I played in a game and the shots were in the 70s.”

Team BC took to the ice on Thursday, November 6 for their second game of the tournament and were looking to rebound against Team Alberta.  The game did not start as Team BC had hoped; they fell behind 1-0 mid-way through the first period.  Team BC was not going down without a fight and in a five (5) minute span in the second period; the squad scored three (3) consecutive goals.  Chrisi Capozzi scored the first.  Thirty-four seconds later, Kelsey Osness scored the second.  Five (5) minutes after that, Jaclyn Stapleton scored the third to put Team BC ahead 3-1.  Team Alberta was able to get one back late, but the stellar play of Salisbury sealed the 3-2 win for Team BC.

The final game of the Preliminary round for Team BC had them in a must win game against Team Quebec.  Team BC needed a win to advance to the semi-final of the 2008 Women’s Under 18 Championship.  Team Quebec flew out of the gate with three (3) goals to open the game.  Team BC worked hard to make a comeback, but fell short.  Team Quebec went on to win the game 6-1.  The lone goal scorer for Team BC was Kaleigh Fratkin.

Team BC will be in action next when they play in the fifth place game tomorrow at 10:00 am PST.  The team they will be facing has not yet been decided.
