The 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge is fast approaching with exhibition games being played on December 28 and the tournament getting underway on December 29, 2008 cumulating in the gold medal game January 4, 2009 at 5:30 pm at the Port Alberni Multiplex. The Team Pacific staff is set to lead the group of 22 players to the first gold medal in Team Pacific’s history.
Mike Gerrits, from Abbotsford, BC is the director of operations for Team Pacific. Gerrits has been involved in the BC Hockey High Performance Program for the past 12 years and was a former Hockey Canada & BC Hockey staff member. Gerritts is currently a BC Hockey District Evaluator and a scout for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.
Janis Entem, from Blairmore, Alberta will serve as the assistant director of operations. Entem has been involved in the Team Alberta program for 9 years.
Tim Kehler is the head coach for Team Pacific and is currently an assistant coach for the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL. Kehler has been involved with Team Pacific in the past serving as an assistant coach in 2005.
Rob Rogers will serve as an assistant coach for Team Pacific. Rogers brings a wealth of experience as he has been a coaching for 23 years and is currently an assistant coach for the Greater Vancouver Canadians of the BC Hockey Major Midget League. Rogers has been heavily involved with the BC Hockey High Performance Program and is currently BC Hockey’s High Performance Coordinator.
Dan Price, a St. Albert, Alberta native, will be an assistant coach for Team Pacific. Price worked extensively on the Regina Pats scouting staff as a Regional Scout for three (3) years. He has also been an assistant coach and head coach in the Alberta Cup program, and was involved as an instructor and evaluator in the Alberta Under-17 program before being named to the Team Pacific staff. Dan is currently a co-coach with the Chilliwack Bruins of the WHL.
Marty Palechuk from Smoky Lake, Alberta, will serve as the athletic therapist for Team Pacific. Palechuk served as the equipment manager for Team Pacific in 2008. He spent two (2) years in the Alberta Junior “A” Hockey League (AJHL) with the Grande Prairie Storm (2003-2004) and the Camrose Kodiaks (2004-2005) winning 2 AJHL Championships, Doyle Cup Championship in 2005 and two (2) appearances at the RBC Royal Bank Cup winning a silver medal in 2005.
Cory Cameron, is from Revelstoke, BC and will be Team Pacific's equipment manager. Cameron is currently in his third season as the head athletic trainer with the Vancouver Giants of the WHL and was part of the Giants 2007 Memorial Cup Championship team. Cameron has worked extensively in the BC Hockey High Performance Program. Most recently, he was the head athletic therapist and equipment manager at the 2007 and 2008 BC Hockey Under 17 Provincial Development Camps.
Matt Hughes of Kamloops, BC will serve as the video coach for Team Pacific. Hughes is currently the assistant coach & assistant general manager for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the BCHL.
