Call for 2009-2010 High Performance Team Staff

BC Hockey is now accepting applications for staffing for the up-coming 2009-2010 High Performance events.  Applications are being accepting for Male Under 16 and Under 17, and Female Under 16 and Under 18 Programs.  The positions available are as outlined:

Male U16 / U17                                                    Male U16/17 Application Deadline: May 1, 2009

  • Zone and District Coaches
  • Team Managers
  • Provincial Camp Instructors
  • Therapist and Equipment Managers

Male 2010 U17 Team Pacific                            Team Pacific Application Deadline: April 1, 2009

  • Assistant Director of Operations
  • Assistant Coach
  • Athletic Therapist

Female U16 / U18                                         Female U16/U18 Application Deadline: May 1, 2009

  • Zone and District Coaches
  • Team Managers
  • Provincial Camp Instructors
  • Trainers and Equipment Managers

If you wish to apply for more than one position, you will only need to fill out the application form once.  Please ensure that you have checked the appropriate positions that you would like to apply for. 

The selection committee will consist of the Chairperson of the High Performance Committee, the High Performance Coordinator and the BC Hockey Staff Resources.

Male and Female Zone Team Applicants

  • Attend Staff Orientation Meeting Late September 2009 
  • Attend Zone / District camps January or March, 2010  
  • Attend BC Cup competition Third weekend of April (tentative)

U18 District Team Applicants

  • Attend U18 Staff Orientation Late September 2009
  • Attend U18 District Camp (March 2010)
  • Attend U18 BC Cup Competition (April 2010)

U17 District Team Applicants

  • Attend U17 Staff Orientation Late September 2009 
  • Attend U17 District Camp March 28-30, 2010 (tentative)
  • Attend U17 BC Cup Competition May 2010 (Date and Location TBA)

Job Description / Qualifications – Zone / District Coach / Provincial Camp Instructor

  • Ability to prepare and coach athletes identified in the BC Hockey High Performance Program
  • Ability to design a technical curriculum and assume the responsibility as an Instructor at the BC Hockey Provincial and Zone / District Camp
  • Ability to work closely with the BC Hockey High Performance Coordinator, Hockey Development staff and District Evaluators
  • Ability to manage instructional personnel at the Provincial and Zone / District Camp
  • Ability to fulfill the time requirements as outlined above
  • Strong interest and personal commitment to high performance athletic development
  • CHA / NCCP certification at the Developmental 1 / Intermediate level 
  • Speak Out! qualification

Job Description / Qualification – Provincial Camp Therapist

  • Reports directly to the Program Manager
  • Works closely with the Equipment Manager
  • Assists players with the prevention and treatment of injuries
  • Control all medical supplies and team equipment
  • Liaison with local doctor or medical officials if required
  • Maintain team / player injury log
  • Ability to provide an effective injury prevention and risk management program
  • Accredited in the Canadian Hockey Safety Program
  • A knowledge of athletic training / first aid procedures
  • Speak Out! qualification

Job Description / Qualifications – Provincial Camp Equipment Manager

  • Ensure the dressing rooms are properly organized and the players are aware of rules and procedures
  • Repair and maintain all team equipment.  Sharpen skates for practices and games
  • Cooperate with the coaching staff in terms of pre-game, game and post-game procedures in the dressing room and on the player’s bench
  • Other duties that may be required
  • Ability to work in conjunction with other camp instructors, provincial coaches and camp administrators
  • Availability to time commitment requirements during the camp
  • Previous High Performance experience at the District and Provincial level is an asset but not absolutely required Speak Out! qualification

Job Description – Team Manager

  • Assist in scheduling the Zone / District Camp in conjunction with the Coaches and BC Hockey Development Staff
  • Developing a budget for the Zone / District team including player registration, Zone / District assistance, etc.  Be accountable for team finances
  • Assist in obtaining support personnel for Zone / District Camp 
  • On-site management of the Zone / District Camp
  • Arrange for team preparation prior to the Competition
  • Arrange team travel, meals, accommodation, and information for the competition
  • Speak Out! qualification

Job Description – Team Trainer

  • A strong interest and personal commitment to athletic training, Safety and Risk Management
  • Responsibility of providing first aid and injury management for zone camp, zone team and competition
  • Ability to work in conjunction with Zone Team Coaches and Manager and assist where required with athlete evaluation
  • Qualified in the Canadian Hockey Safety Program
  • Speak Out! qualification
