BC Hockey announced today that the Burnaby Winter Club will host the 2010 Western Bantam Tier 1 Championship April 8-11, 2010 at the Bill Copeland Arena. The Championship was last hosted in BC in 2006 in Kelowna, BC.
The Western Bantam Tier 1 Championship is a five (5) team event to determine the top Bantam team in Western Canada. Provincial champions from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the host team compete for the prestigious championship.
“The Burnaby Winter Club is honoured to be the host for the 2010 Western Canadian Bantam Championships. The Burnaby Winter Club Bantam A1 team has been fortunate to attend the Championships on four occasions, having won the Championship in 2002 and 2007,” said Dan Melanson Host Committee Chair. “In 2008, the BWC was the silver medalists. This is a great opportunity to showcase Western Canadian Bantam hockey in Burnaby and with the support of the City of Burnaby and Tourism Burnaby, the Burnaby Winter Club is committed to hosting a ‘first class’ sporting event.”
The 2009 Western Bantam Tier 1 Championship was held in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and the Alberta representative the Airdrie Xtreme defeated the Abbotsford Hawks in the Championship game 5-3.
Event information will be posted to the BC Hockey website as it becomes available.
