Major Midget League Player of the Month - October
Thursday, November 05, 2009

BC Hockey announced today that Cariboo Cougar’s forward Lyndon Martel has been named the Major Midget League player of the month for October. In six games (6) Martel compiled 15 points – six (6) goals and nine (9) assists with a plus 11 rating.

Martel’s selection was a first for the BC Hockey Major Midget League as he currently plays for the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL. He joined the Spruce Kings after the first five (5) weeks of the MML season. The Major Midget League’s goal is to develop players, so they can reach the next level of hockey and Lyndon is a great example of this.

“We supported Lyndon moving up to Junior A hockey with the Spruce Kings because he deserves the opportunity,” said Cariboo Cougars head coach Trevor Sprague. “He is a model hockey player both on and off the ice.”

As well as being named Player of the Month, Martel will receive a gift from Easton on his selection.

Lyndon Martel was chosen from a high calibre list of nominees for this prestigious award. The runners up in no particular order are as follows:

  • North Island Silvertips – Teagan Waugh
  • Vancouver North West Giants – Steven Iacobellis
  • Fraser Valley Bruins – Devon Allenby
  • Greater Vancouver Canadians – Jessie Siemens
  • Valley West Hawks – Mike Stenerson
  • Kootenay Ice – James Barr
  • South Island Thunderbirds – Mark Walton
  • Okanagan Rockets – Turner Lawson
  • Vancouver North East Chiefs – James Davidson
  • Thompson Blazers – Morgan Zulinick

The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group.  Playing at this high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
