List of Candidates for BC Hockey Board of Directors

Mark Burgin

Occupation: Manager, Western Canada

Place of Residence: Surrey, B.C.

Education:

  • Business Administration and Management (University of Manitoba)

Board Experience: Burgin is rounding off his first term as a BC Hockey Board of Director. He served as the Director of Communications with Semiahmoo Minor Hockey Association from 2016-2019.

Additional Skills and Information: Burgin is a member of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Workgroup and is Chair of the Risk Management Committee for BC Hockey.  He oversaw the 2019 BC Hockey U13 Championships as the tournament Chair. He is the Founder and Director of the Diversity Athletics Society, which focuses on supporting young athletes’ needs and helps provide continued athletic opportunities through support, mentorship and resources to youth facing social, cultural, economic or other barriers.

Burgin is a cognitive sports performance coach leveraging Health Canada medical technology to monitor and enhance brain health while advancing player performance via NeuroCatch. He is a certified PEP (Power Edge Pro) Instructor and develops athletes on and off the ice. He continues to mentor and develop current BC Hockey athletes throughout the province and former BC Hockey athletes who have advanced to the NCAA, ECHL, AHL (American Hockey League) and the NHL (National Hockey League).

Haleigh Callison

Occupation: Cedar Sales Team Lead and President & Founder of Takoda Consulting

Place of Residence: Vancouver, B.C.

Education and Certifications:

  • Dual MBA: Master's degree in Business Administration (Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management and Queen’s University’s Smith School of Business)
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Kinetics (University of British Columbia)
  • Executive Women in Leadership Certification (eCornell University)

Board Experience: Callison is finishing her second term on the BC Hockey Board of Directors. She is Co-Chair of the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Alumni Advisory Council and served as a Director for the UBC Women’s Alumni Council for over 10 years.

Additional Skills and Information: Callison is a proud member of the Hwlitsum First Nation and is passionate about making the world, and the sport of hockey, a safe place for everyone. She educates corporations on equity, diversity, and inclusion, and critical thinking strategies. She has been involved with Canucks for Kids Foundation for over 20 years. Callison has a strong hockey background, playing minor hockey in Smithers, B.C., before playing for UBC as well as professionally around the world.

John Delaney

Occupation: Senior Marketing Director

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Arts in Sociology, minor in Management (University of Manitoba)
  • Currently pursuing a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Simon Fraser University) as part of the laddered pathway to the Master of Business Administration

Board Experience: Delaney was a previous Committee Member at Variety, the Children's Charity in Manitoba.

Additional Skills and Information: Delaney is currently the Senior Marketing Director at Canucks Sports and Entertainment. He oversees all integrated and digital marketing, social media, and content across various sports and entertainment brands. He also has a supporting role with Canucks for Kids Fund and True North Youth Foundation. His post-graduate business education focused on organizational behaviour and financial viability. He has completed a graduate level Indigenous business course and is a regular collaborator with Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations.

Jaci Edgeworth

Occupation: Vice President People, Culture & Sustainability

Place of Residence: North Vancouver, B.C. 

Education and Certifications:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development (University of Minnesota)
  • Master's degree in Adult Education (University of Minnesota)
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications (University of Minnesota)

Board Experience: Edgeworth is completing her first term as a BC Hockey Board of Director. She has extensive board experience with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (2021-Present), Family Services of the North Shore (2015-Present), One Girl Can (2015-2016), ViaSport (2013-2019) and Special Olympics Canada (2011-2014).

Additional Skills and Information: Edgeworth has over 20 years experience in strategic human resources and operations in the public and private sector. Since 2021, she has served as ICBC’s Vice President People, Culture & Sustainability. Edgeworth works directly with government ministries as an executive in public sector organizations and is responsible for human resources, equity, diversity, and inclusion, facilities and environmental sustainability, supply chain and crisis management initiatives.

Darren Kautz

Occupation: Lawyer

Place of Residence: Lake Country, B.C.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (University of Calgary)
  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology (University of Calgary)

Board Experience: Kautz was the President and a Director of Kelowna Minor Baseball for six years and a Director on the Vernon Minor Hockey Association’s Board for one term.

Additional Skills and Information: Kautz’s time at Kelowna Minor Baseball gave him experience with seeking stakeholders and funds from the Government. He served in head coach and assistant coach roles for Winfield and District Minor Hockey Association for three seasons at U7 and U11 levels. Kautz was called to the bar in both B.C. and Alberta and now works professionally as a Lawyer at FH&P Lawyers and is part of their financial management team. The Lake Country resident has acted for local First Nations as counsel, gaining a unique understanding of Indigenous relations. Kautz is an adjunct professor at Okanagan College as well as acivil litigator that has acted for hockey players with regard to administrative and quasi criminal files at the junior hockey level.

Cory Mizuyabu

Occupation: Labour Relations Leader

Place of Residence: Delta, B.C.

Education and Certifications:

  • Executive Master's degree in Business Administration (Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business)

Board Experience: Mizuyabu works directly with the governing board for B.C. Nurses’ Union to help develop and operationalize strategic directions and policies.

Additional Skills and Information: Mizuyabu’s experience includes collaborating with government stakeholders and working closely with diversity groups to develop internal equity, diversity, and inclusion strategies. Mizuyabu has served in human resource roles for over a decade and is well versed in risk management. For over 10 years he was a Senior Store Manager at the BC Liquor Distribution Branch where his responsibilities included accounting and financial management of the store’s budget.
