PAGE 17 FEMALE HIGH PERFORMANCE U14 U16 ZONE CAMPS U16 IDENTIFICATION CAMP The Female U14 and U16 Zone Camps occurred at the same time this season across the province in January 2016. The U14 camp is designed to introduce players to the Female High Performance Programs. Players participated in on-ice drill sessions and off-ice fitness testing. This year over 150 athletes participated in U14 Zone Camps across five 5 zones Kootenay Thompson-Okanagan North Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland. The U16 level builds on the concepts introduced at the U14 level and is intended as a lead in to the final phase of the program the U18 level. Along with the on and off- ice programming there is an important evaluation component to the camps. High performance evaluators select the best players from each region camp to move on to the Female U16 Identification Camps. This year over 208 players from the five 5 zones participated in the camps. The Female U16 Identification Camp is a jamboree-style tournament featuring the best 120 players selected from the U16 Zone Camps. This year the emphasis was on skill development rather than competition. The six 6 teams each played three 3 games and participated in skills sessions practices and off-ice activities such as dryland training and team building. The U16 Identification Camp is meant to serve as an introduction to the high performance camps. Players were evaluated throughout the event and the top 40 players have been invited to the U16 Strength and Conditioning Camp in July 2016 as well five 5 athletes were invited through to the U18 Invitational Selection Camp in Lake Cowichan May 2016.
