BCEHL PLAYERS OF THE MONTH - DECEMBER 2021

For Immediate Release
January 17, 2022

Saanichton, B.C. – Each month the BCEHL honours one player from each of the four leagues as the BCEHL Player of the Month for their respective league. Every team has the opportunity to nominate an individual from their team to be considered for the monthly award. This award is not based strictly on statistics. Team staff factors in the player’s on-and-off ice contributions towards the team as well as their involvement within the community and minor hockey mentorship.

Female U18 AAA

#4 Malika McDonald
Vancouver Island Seals
Port Alberni, BC
Defense
0G-0A
Malika is a steadying presence on the blueline for the Vancouver Island Seals. Her impact on the Seals' program and hockey on the island stretches further than just her on-ice statistics. She is the captain of the Seals and commutes over eight hours a week to attend her team practices and games, highlighting her dedication to the program.

She has been a leader in more than just her own team's events this month, as she recently led a Female Hockey Weekend where females from all over the island attended an off-ice clinic and skate. She is dedicated to her studies as well and recently committed to Brock University for the 2022-23 year.

U18 AAA

#17 Ollie Josephson
South Island Royals
Victoria, BC
Forward
5G-6A
Ollie Josephson started his month off with an incredible achievement as he was selected fifth-overall by the Red Deer Rebels in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft. He later appeared in one game for the Rebels after signing his WHL Standard Player Agreement. In the month of December, Ollie recorded a staggering 5G-6A in just four games played for the Royals.

Throughout the month of December Ollie was instrumental off the ice, as he helped raise food hamper donations for families in need and collected toys and other items for a local hospital over the holiday season. He also spent time writing letters to elderly residents in care homes during the continued covid restrictions to brighten their day.

U17 AAA

#76 Dylan Elliott
Vancouver NE Chiefs
Coquitlam, BC
Defense
3G-6A
Throughout the holiday season Dylan went above and beyond to help his community, volunteering his time with the Salvation Army's Kettle Campaign, and collecting donations for the Salvation Army and for those in need throughout the month of December. He also helped with many on-ice sessions with the U15 AAA Vancouver NE Chiefs by demonstrating drills and participating in their skill development sessions.

On the ice, Dylan has been crucial in all 5-on-5 situations for the Chiefs, while also anchoring both special teams units. Dylan was called up to play with the U18 AAA team in December. This month he had points in all five games he played with the U17 AAA team, recording 2g-6a, including an incredible five-point effort (3g-2a) in the team's final game of the month.

U15 AAA

#3 Leith Hunter
Vancouver NW Hawks
North Vancouver, BC
Defense
1G-9A
Leith is a North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association alumni who enjoys giving back to his MHA, most notably by assisting with the U7-U11 development skates alongside the lead skills coach. He also volunteers with the U17 AAA and U18 AAA Hawks' teams by helping with music and the score clock at many of their games.

The 6'5" defender had a very notable month of December, tallying 1g-9a in the team's four games, helping them to a 4-0-0 record throughout the month despite injuries throughout the lineup. Leith is the Hawks' assistant captain and is a leader both on-and-off the ice. Leith currently sits first in scoring from the blue line in the BCEHL this year, recording 23 points in 22 games.
