BCEHL WEEKEND UPDATE - JANUARY 14-17

Saanichton, B.C. –  In the U18 AAA league the Cariboo Cougars return to action this weekend for their first games in nearly a month, playing four times across the course of the weekend. In the U17 AAA league the Valley West Giants jumped into first-place in the league and will be looking to add to their lead when they face the Cariboo Cougars. Let's see what else this weekend has in store!
 
Female U18 AAA
 
The Thompson-Okanagan Lakers return to action this weekend to play their first game since the end of November. The Vancouver Island Seals will also return to the ice for their first games since the holiday break. This will be the first time these two teams have met since October 17, 2021, and only one point separates them in the standings. Devan Andrusak of the Seals (7g-9a), and Ava Petty of the Lakers (8g-8a), will both be looking to climb up the scoring charts, with the two skaters tied for ninth in league scoring.

U18 AAA
 
Nine of the 10 U18 AAA teams will take to the ice this weekend with the Cariboo Cougars suiting up for their first set of games this month. The Cougars will play a four-game series against the league-leading Vancouver NE Chiefs. Elsewhere, the Greater Vancouver Canadians, who defeated the league-leading Chiefs in OT their last time out, will take on the Okanagan Rockets, who are riding a three-game winning streak. The South Island Royals and Fraser Valley Thunderbirds will also face-off this weekend, with five of the leagues top-10 scorers - Jackson Campbell (11g-17a) and Ollie Josephson (11g-12a) of the Royals, and Gavin Giesbrecht (12g-14a), Alyandro De Leon (15g-11a), and Matteo Speranza (12g-11a) - in action.

The Valley West Giants re-claimed top spot in the standings this week after defeating the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in a mid-week affair. Giants' goaltender Garin Wickstrom improved his recored to an impressive 12-3-1 with the victory. Both of these teams will take to the ice this weekend against the Cariboo Cougars. Elsewhere, the North Island Silvertips will travel to take on the Vancouver NE Chiefs, and the Vancouver NW Hawks will visit the South Island Royals. They Royals are coming off their first victory of the season last weekend.

A light schedule of games in the U15 AAA league this weekend will see the Greater Vancouver Canadians, who are looking to snap a three-game losing skid, take on the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds who exploded for seven goals in their win over the Vancouver NE Chiefs last Sunday. Canadians' goaltender Marcus Taylor will be looking to add to his league-leading two shutouts. Elsewhere, the North Island Silvertips, who are still in search of their first win of the season, will take on the Cariboo Cougars.
