VANCOUVER FEMALE ICE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION TO HOST FESTIVAL

For Immediate Release

August 9, 2022

Saanichton, B.C. – BC Hockey, in collaboration with Vancouver Female Ice Hockey Association (VFIHA), is pleased to announce the inaugural Vancouver Female Hockey Festival, which will be hosted from October 7-10, 2022.

Open to U11, U13 and U15 female recreational teams from Canada and the United States, the weekend will also feature coaching and referee clinics, along with a Come Try Hockey event exclusively for female participants. Team registration is now open here.

“We’re pleased to be working with BC Hockey on such a wonderful event, and are looking forward to a weekend celebrating female hockey!” said VFIHA President James Nedila. “Thank you to the City of Vancouver, Sport Hosting Vancouver, the Vancouver Park Board, and the local minor sport community for all their support in making this happen.”

Games will take place at six City of Vancouver rinks to be announced in the near future. Further details, including festival rules and information on how to become a festival sponsor, can be found at female.hockey. Questions can be directed to info@vfiha.com.

“BC Hockey is excited to partner with Vancouver Female Ice Hockey Association on this incredible event,” BC Hockey Chief Programs Officer Jeremy Ainsworth said. “This will serve as a terrific opportunity for female hockey to be celebrated in our province.”

The Vancouver Female Hockey Festival will be a marquee event of the 2022-23 season, which also marks VFIHA’s 50th anniversary season. Formed in 1972 as Killarney Girls Hockey, VFIHA has provided opportunities for girls and women to play hockey for five decades.
