Canada’s National Junior A Championship, the RBC Cup, gets underway Saturday May 13 in Cobourg, Ontario.
Five (5) teams from across Canada have arrived in Cobourg, including the British Columbia Hockey League’s (BCHL) Penticton Vees, who are the West Region #2 seed. The Vees will be joined by the: Brooks Bandits (AJHL/West #1), Cobourg Cougars (OJHL/Host), Terrebonne Cobras (LHJQ/East) and Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL/Central).
Penticton’s first game of the tournament will come on Sunday, May 14, 2017 against Brooks. These two (2) teams faced off at the Western Canada Cup last week held in Penticton where both teams earned RBC Cup berths.
For the Vees, this is their third trip to the national championship over the past six (6) seasons. They won the RBC Cup in 2012 in Humboldt, Saskatchewan and lost in the semifinal in 2015 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The franchise has previously been to back-to-back national championships as the Penticton Knights in 1985 and 1986, winning in 1986.
