Summer Officiating Schools

2026 Summer Officiating Schools

The offseason is when the hard work is put in to get yourself ready for the next season. If you are looking for an opportunity to expand your knowledge of officiating then the BC Hockey Summer Officiating School will meet all your expectations. The school will be devoted entirely to Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) material. The current season's HCOP certification exam will be administered on the final day of camp to provide certification. Ice sessions have been designed to supplement the classroom instructional content. Students may be grouped by age, ability, or level of interest during the school to maximize success. 

2026 Summer Officiating Schools - Dates and Locations

Registration will open in January 2026.

Lake Cowichan - July 24-28, 2026

  • 2:00 p.m. arrival on July 24
  • 12:00 p.m. departure on July 28

Salmon Arm - July 30 - August 3, 2026

  • 2:00 p.m. arrival on July 30

Eligibility

Any student aged 12 to 17 years old as of December 31 of the current calendar year wishing to register as a BC Hockey Official in the upcoming season is welcome to attend.

NEW officials will be required to complete the online "Intro to Officiating" course prior to certification registration. 

RETURNING officials will be required to complete the online pre-requisite course prior to certification registration - "Level 1 Recertification" or "Level 2 Recertification"

Level 1 officials are 12-15 years old. Level 2 officials are 16+ years old. Level 3 officials must be a minimum of 17 years old and have written recommendation letter from their District Officiating Coordinator.

Certification

Officials will be sent a clinic registration, which they will need to complete, in order to ensure their certification is applied for the upcoming season. All officials will leave the camp with full certification for the upcoming year of programming.

Instruction

The Summer Officiating Schools are operated under the direction of experienced BC Hockey Officiating Program personnel. Instructors will include BC Hockey instructional staff, elite level officials, and possible special guests.

Staff (camp instructor) applications will be accepted Spring 2026.

Accommodation

Supervised dormitory accommodations are located near or at the arena facility. All students are expected to stay in residence for the duration of the camp.

Meals

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided daily. It is recommended that you bring snacks based on your own preferences.

What to bring

  1. Clothing to last the duration of the camp, that will comply with the above requirements
  2. Personal hygiene items such as bathing suit, towels, face cloth, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, etc.
  3. Bedding such as pillows, blankets, or sleeping bags
  4. Athletic shorts + shirt, gym (indoor) shoes & outdoor shoes, swim wear etc.
  5. Full officiating equipment: skates, CSA approved helmet/visor, jersey, pants, whistle, pads etc.
  6. Writing instruments (pen or pencil) and paper. Computer or tablet is optional.
